Tanika Byrd, Ed.D.

Dr. Tanika Byrd is committed to impacting her local and global community in regards to equity, inclusion, social justice, and intercultural communication. As a Communication professor, she specializes in how the practical application of competent intercultural communication skills leads to equitable relationships and ultimately a more just and equitable society. Dr. Byrd believes that finding the balance between speaking up, speaking out, and listening is where community is built and change occurs. Personally, much of her commitment to inclusion and diversity work is fueled by her two beautiful boys and supportive partner. Dr. Byrd has presented her work at several national and regional conferences that focus on communication, race, gender, and social justice.  Working across identities to create an equitable and inclusive environment is her life’s passion.

Pamela Chao, MA

Pam Chao has been a steady, forceful advocate for equity and social justice at the local and national level for the last three decades. As an educator, trainer, and consultant on a national level, and a professor and community member locally, Pam believes our work is amplified by empowering others and creating policies and infrastructure that make equitable practices more common today and the default in the future. Pam knows that organizations have strength because of the individual people within them. As Professor of Sociology whose academic focus is on race relations,, she is currently the Coordinator of the Equity Action Institute and the Diversity in the Classroom:  A Reaching and Learning Institute for her college.

Jennifer Laflam, MA

Jennifer Laflam believes change is rooted in the power of being in community with others who seek to deepen their humanity by interrogating power and privilege. As a former high school teacher and current community college English professor, her goal is to co-create learning experiences that are relevant to people’s lived experiences. As Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning at her institution, Jennifer facilitates professional development for college employees. She is a doctoral student in Higher Education Administration studying Whiteness in higher education. She is dedicated to her own professional and personal growth, which fuels her ability to support others as they pursue change.
